Speechless

The Orwellian-sounding Ministry of Justice has today admitted that it has released two criminals convicted of terrorism offences early in order to ease prison overcrowding.

Yassin Nassari left Wakefield Prison in February, after being jailed last summer for three and a half years. The other criminal is believed to be Abdul Muneem Patel, who was jailed for six months at the Old Bailey in October, 2007, after a jury found him guilty of having a terrorism-related explosives manual.

Sometimes the incompetence of this government beggars belief.

It's only "Orwellian-sounding" if one does not accept the role of the state in administering justice (as opposed to determining Truth or Love, two of the depicted Ministries in Nineteen Eighty-Four).

Most rational people would accept that this is a core purpose of the state. Only a few genuine anarchists seem to believe otherwise.

What to me is an even greater worry were the original sentences handed out to these terrorists!
Not to them as much more than a slap on the wrist.

Ah! Normal Mouth! I can't see what was wrong with "Lord Chancellor's Department".

It is about time the Conservative party grasped the nettle and came out with some powerful pledges on what they propose of law and order issues, not least sentencing guidelines.
At present the sentences are woefully inadequate, take the two sentences illustrated in you posting, hardly deterrent are they?
Some of these terrorist's are suicide bombers for goodness sakes, so a three and a half year gross sentence is nothing to them is it?
Firm policies are called for.
We the normal, law abiding, tax paying person are crying out for some firm leadership and vision.
